The correct belief regarding evil eye

Home / Aqeedah - Tawheed / The correct belief regarding evil eye

I have been noticing for quite some years that when someone is staring at me, I stumble or sometimes even fall. I cannot say that it always happens but quite a number of times. Recently, a lady was staring at me and I fell. My ankle got sprained badly.

Is it superstition to think it could be evil eye? I fear to be sinning thinking of evil eye. Please advise. May Allah reward you with goodness.

Zaynab El-Kateb:

We believe in envy and in the effect of a bad envying eye. This is in the Quran. Several hadith state incidents of Companions being harmed because of envying eye. Even if the envier did not do it on purpose, it might happen.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said:

العين حق

“Envying eye is Haq”

Envying is just a reason/ means for harm, it has no effect by itself. It is just a reason/ means like any other reason/ means that Allah uses to cause illness or any other form of harm. It is all within Allah’s Will. We must not say or think that if this person did not look at us,  we would have not fallen.

We would fall, regardless of the reason or cause.

Therefore, we must always remember to say: “Allahumma barik” in order to protect ourselves and say our adhkar regularly.
