Announcing eid a day before then other countries, whilst the moon was not sighted

Home / Fiqh / Announcing eid a day before then other countries, whilst the moon was not sighted

Question:

There is a confusing situation going on in Ireland regarding Eid. Two islamic organizations have announced Eid for Tuesday (1st of shawal on Tuesday) but they announced this 4 hours before the sun even set (so it’s impossible that they saw the moon!), while Saudi, Europe and the UK all have said Wednesday will be Eid rather than Tuesday and there is no moon sighted! The whole Muslim population is confused and upset! May you please clarify this?

Shaikh Hassan Al-Banna:

Make Eid (Iftar) with the people jamaah in order to avoid a fitnah. Then you fast a day as a compensation after the Eid, and you should not mention that you are fasting this day (after Eid) as a compensation to common Muslims in order not to create a chaos or confusion, i.e. Just inform to salafiyun and those who will understand this ruling.
