Breaking wudu in congregational prayer

Home / Fiqh Of Prayers / Breaking wudu in congregational prayer

When praying with the congregation, if one feels like their wudu is broken what should they do? Also, what should one do if one is sure that their wudu is broken? If he leaves, then it will disturb the people.

Zaynab El-Kateb:

To know if his ablution is broken, meaning to be sure it’s not just a feeling of movement or noise in his stomach, he has to notice that an intestinal gas has went out with a sound or smell (this is the meaning of a saying of the Prophet peace be upon him). In this case he just leaves the prayer and goes out. The people will re-organize themselves, no problem. He cannot stay.
