Eating the food of hosts without asking their source of income

Home / Fiqh / Eating the food of hosts without asking their source of income

Question:

If relatives are earning income by interest then is it permissible to eat anything from their home?

Zaynab El-Kateb:

Yes, you can eat at your relative’s house. The Prophet, peace be upon him, ate the food of the Jewish woman and it is known that Jews deal with usury (riba).
It is not from the Sunnah to ask or search for the source of earnings of someone before eating their food when visiting them.
