There are some people in the United Kingdom who purchases chicken from the supermarkets of the disbelievers. They say that we are allowed to because they are the People of the Book (referring to the Christians and Jews) and that Shaikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen gave a fatwa that it is permissible to eat their meat but I’m saying that most of the people in this country are atheists. So is the fatwa still applicable? We do have halal meat shops but some people live far from them .
The Scholars say that if the majority of the country is the People of the Book (referring to the Christians and Jews) then it is permissible to eat their slaughtered meat with the condition that slaughtering has to be performed according to Islamic Legislation, except if you happen to know that the man who slaughtered is an atheist. If the majority of population are Atheist (like in Romania, Bulgaria or China) then it is not permissible to eat from it.
