Why should we worship the God of the Universe

Have you ever pondered about your existence and how all that perfect harmony of the environment around you came into being? Is it truly possible that everything you see around you just appeared out of thin air or that it has come about as a mere coincidence? You yourself are a witness to this existence and this amazing Universe and what occurs in it and surely, you know that it is impossible for anything from the creation to bring it about. So who then is its Creator?

Think about the existence of the heavens, the earth and what is in them from the stars, mountains, waves in the ocean, chemical elements and different races of human beings. Think about the development of the embryo in the womb to a fully formed baby. Who originates and gives shape to this baby which did not exist before? Think about the alteration of the night and the day and that leading to ideal amounts of rest and nurturing for the creation. How did this magnificent universe and all it contains from gigantic miracles like the celestial bodies, to smaller miracles like the human eye and our unique fingerprints, how did their existence come into being? Is there anyone capable of replicating any of this? Who has the power, the precise ability and infinite wisdom to create all this? This amazing Universe runs in perfect harmony and shows signs that it has indeed been designed and this designer must be only one Creator and He is Allah.

Everything that is created is designed. For example your smart phone has some of the most sophisticated technology available to us, with complex features that took years to design and create. Yet this is only a phone and it needed a designer and it did not appear out of thin air! Now this phone is nowhere near as complex as humans, yet how can we believe that something such as a phone must have a designer and a creator but this complex universe and everything that is contained within it does not need one?

Indeed your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He Istawa (rose over) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!  [54 : 6]

It is not logical either that there are two or more Deities competing with each other.  If there were more than one Creator, the Universe would be in complete chaos. The world around us and the natural inclination of our hearts leads us to the fact the Creator is one and solely responsible for all existence. When your own heart recognizes that there is only one Creator of everything and only one true God, you should ask yourself why He created us and Who He is in reality, because He did not leave us upon this earth without a purpose.

This purpose is to worship Him as He has commanded man to do so, while knowing that we are eternally in need of Him but He is free from needing His creation in anyway.

And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). I seek not any provision from them (i.e. provision for themselves or for My creatures) nor do I ask that they should feed Me (i.e. feed themselves or My creatures). [52:56-57]

Allah deserves to be worshipped lovingly due to His beautiful and perfect attributes and acts. We love Allah because He is The All Merciful, The All Forgiving (Allah forgives all sins no matter how big the sin so long as we repent to Him). Allah is The All Appreciative and the All Thankful who thanks even the tiniest good act we do for His sake. Allah is the All loving who loves His true believers, Allah is The Responsive who loves to hear our supplications and prayers and answers them.

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. [2:186]

At the same time this does not justify that people should become disobedient to Allah, tyrannical and oppressive and yet still receive Allah’s forgiveness. Allah is the Most Just and He also punishes justly those deserving of it. For this reason He is also feared for His punishment. Exalted is He, the God and the Master in the heavens and in the Earth and to whom all the creation submit to Him willingly or unwillingly.

Allah can do with us whatever He wills, whenever He wishes. Both believers and nonbelievers are slaves to Allah, and both are under His will.

“Something that was on my mind was if after death there really was another life, I would not have the luxury to just run away from Allah and just do what pleased me.” Abdur Rahmaan, former atheist who became a Muslim.

Allah has Perfect Attributes. He is the First, nothing is before Him. He is the Last, everything ends except Him; the Most High, nothing is above Him, He is the EverLiving, to Him we shall all return, and he will deal with every single person in the Most Perfect and Just way. He does not beget nor is He begotten. There is nothing like unto him. We cannot envision Him, but He grasps all vision.

Those who attribute Divinity to Jesus forget or ignore the fact that Jesus was in his mother’s womb. He needed nutrition; he was born and grew up to be a man. He was trusted with the Gospel (Injeel) as a message to the Children of Israel. A human messenger calling his nation not to worship him, but to worship the One true God. A man who needed to eat, walk, sleep, rest and so forth. Who therefore cannot possibly have divine attributes because he is in need, but Allah, the God of Jesus, is far above any imperfections and absolutely free of needing anything.

Say (O Muhammad): “He is Allah, (the) One. Allah is As-Samad (The Self Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none coequal or comparable unto Him.” [chapter 112]

Jesus was a man whom Allah chose to be one of the greatest Prophets to mankind. Allah sent miracles along with the Prophets as divine signs for people to believe in them. Jesus was born in a miraculous way as he did not have a father and his mother was a Virgin. However, this is not less miraculous than the creation of his father Adam, whom Allah created with His own hand and had no mother nor father. This is indeed easy for to Allah.

“Verily, His Command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, “Be!” and it is!” (36:82)

Allah told us about Himself by sending us books and Prophets. All the prophets, from Adam to Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Yaʿqub (Jacob), Musa (Moses), Dawud (David), Sulayman (Solomon), ‘Isa (Jesus), and Muhammad, peace be upon them all, were sent by Allah with the same message: Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him. This is Islam, which means to believe in Allah’s Oneness and surrender to Him. It is the true religion of all prophets which was deviated by the Jews and Christians. Allah told us in His books that He created us for this one noble purpose to worship Him alone and He told us why we should worship Him lovingly and why we should hope for His reward and His forgiveness and why we should fear His punishment. Allah made everything clear to us.

“ And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad ) but We inspired him (saying): La ilaha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah)], so worship Me (Alone and none else).”

(Surah 21, The Prophets,verse 25.)

Today, many people have misconceptions such as there being several Gods and that everyone can just choose the God he wishes to worship. Or that everyone can worship the same God in any manner that one pleases. Allah, who created us for his worship, sent us clear instruction on how to worship him through his Prophets, with the final instruction to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, being preserved exactly and perfectly until this day.

Corrupted or man-made religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Rastafarianism, etc. are based on worshipping created beings or things in one form or another. In Islam, all worship is directed exclusively to Allah since it is the religion Allah has chosen for His creation and He named it Himself. The word Islam means to submit to Allah by worshipping Him alone; and to surrender to Him in obedience; and to keep away from idolatry and idolaters.

There is no need for an intercessor to confess sins to or plead to Allah on your behalf for your sins, as they are in just as much need of Him as you are.

The argument, ‘you cannot reach the king’s directly except through the ones who are closest to him, so you need an intercessor with your Creator’ is a statement of polytheism that contradicts the message of all Prophets which was to worship Allah alone. The reason is because through these mediators (such as saints) people put their hopes, love, reverence, fervor, thankfulness etc. in other than the only one who can benefit them in reality, Allah.

How can it be a true God if He needs an intercessor to answer our supplications? Allah is indeed self sufficient and not in need of any of His creation.

“That is because Allaah, He is the true God deserving all worship and those whom they call upon besides Him are futile and false and Allaah He is the Most High the Most Great “ (Chapter The Pilgrimage, verses 22:62)

Your heart desires to worship Allah and you know this deep down. You know how to satisfy your other desires such as when you have a craving you eat something you like, when you want to please your eyes you watch something attractive and when you feel sad, you seek for something that makes you happy and satisfied. However, what about pleasing your heart? Have you tried listening to your heart? Your heart is the most important part of you, so are you taking care of it?

Be honest with yourself, are you really happy? ‘Are you truly at peace with a tranquil heart? Your heart will gain comfort when you thank Allah and you humble yourself to Him and you develop a relationship with Him. However your heart is deprived of its true comfort, that is why you are not truly happy and you will never be until you give to your heart what it is crying for.

And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allah, while he is a good-doer (i.e. performs good deeds totally for Allah’s sake)  then he has grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold. And to Allah return all matters for decision. [31:22]

This is the truth. If you believe that there is only one God that deserves to be worshipped, that Jesus was nothing more than a human being and a Prophet sent by God to spread the same Message as the rest of the other Prophets mentioned in the old testament and that Muhammad is His last Prophet and Messenger, you should become a Muslim by just saying the following words in Spanish and then in Arabic and by listening to the video. After that please go to the New Muslim section and write to us if you have any questions, we are here to help you, with Allah’s help.
