I don’t want to live with my in laws

Question:

When I got married I put in my marriage contract that I will not live with my in laws. My husband agreed to this at the time.

Now, my brother in law wants to stay at our home for 2 nights every week for about 3 months so he can travel to work quicker.

My husband has agreed to this because he said it is not against our contract as my brother in law will be there only some of the week. Is this correct?

Shaikh Waleed Boghdady:

If the case is as it has been mentioned in the question, that your brother in law will keep at home two or three nights just for a specific period of time, then this doesn’t contradict the condition you agreed upon before. My advice to you is to accept this out of ihsaan to your husband and his family, with the  conditions that your husband has to be at home whenever your brother in law is at home and that you cover yourself with the legislated hijab.
