Memorizing Quran only or gaining other knowledge

Question:

I am 47 years and I have been memorizing Quran for the past year. I also learn the rules of recitation (tajweed) and correct pronunciation of the letters there. Since I am a non-Arab I learn the meaning of the verses first and then memorise. Other than the chores at home I do only this and I don’t find time to learn anything else. I am happy that I spend all my free time with Quran. My doubt is, is this enough for me or should I stop after memorising a few parts of the Quran (ie. juz) and learn something else?

Umm Abdel-Malik:

As long as you learn the meaning of the Quran verses then you are taking knowledge. If you can try to listen to lectures in aqeedah and meanings of sayings (ahadith) of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him that will be even better. Do not stop memorization (hifdh).
