A sister paying fideyyah for missed fasting from her dowry

Home / Fasting and Ramadhan / A sister paying fideyyah for missed fasting from her dowry

Question:

A woman couldn’t fast for five years in Ramadan because of her two pregnancies and breastfeeding. Financially, she fully depends on her husband and her husband is not paying to feed the poor for her missed fasts (qada). She has nothing to pay except her mahr (wedding dowry) so what should she do? Should she pay using her mahr without taking permission from her husband, and this would make him angry, or should she remain silent and wait for her husband to pay whenever he wills?
BaraakAllahu feeki.

Zaynab El-Kateb:

If by “mahr” she means her wedding dowry then this is her money and she doesn’t need her husband’s permission.
