When a woman divorces herself due to valid reasons, does she go and get the divorce papers? Does the husband still provide for her and her kids? And, how long is her iddah period?
A woman cannot divorce herself. There is only khula. The judge is the one who announces this khula.
Shaikh Ibn Al-Uthaymeen says that khula is a confiscation of marriage’s contract, where she returns the dowry to him. Iddah to this woman is only one menstrual period (one menstrual period, but not 3), and she does not stay in his house because this is not a normal divorce. He does not pay her anything, but he should spend on his children.
