Praying Fajr when it is over
Question:
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
What is the ruling on a person who deliberately delays the fajr prayer to perform it at its last moments due to committing sin at night but when that person wakes up to make wudu and pray, he realises that the time for fajr has passed? Your advice is highly appreciated. May Allah reward you with goodness.
Shaikh Waleed Boghdady:
Fear Allah. Allah says:
إن الصلاة كانت على المؤمنين كتابا موقوتا
Verily, As-Salat (the prayer) is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours.
[Surah An-Nisaa, 103]
The Scholars say that if you prayed a prayer out of its time without a valid reason, then there is no compensation for this, meaning you will not be able to pray it out of its time as a compensation. Missing a prayer without a valid reason needs Tawbah. This is something extremely serious, and you need to fear Allah. Make sure that you don’t stay late at night in order to be able to pray fajr at its time, indeed this is one of the most important issues in your religion.
