Expiation for killing someone unwillingly

Question:

A young Muslim who used to be involved in drugs killed another Muslim by accident while fighting with him. He went to prison for this matter but he wants to know if he also has to do a kafara (expiation) islamically. Jazakallah khair

Shaikh Adel As-Sayed:

If this person lives in a kaffir country, then he is only requested to repent and he should ask for Allah’s forgiveness and make good deeds and other acts of worship. He is not requested to do anything else.

But if this person lives in a Muslim country and the victim was a Muslim then he should try to meet the family of the victim and ask for their forgiveness.
